It is pretty rare that I fall in love with a game before I even get my hands on it, and even rarer when the game plays and feels exactly how I imagined it would feel when I finally did get my hands on it. Fat Princess is such a game.

I was sold on the game the moment I heard it’s over the top, silly, and yet utterly unique premise: A 32 player online multi-player game in which two teams consisting of 16 people each battle each other to rescue their princess from the other team. Simple enough, but that’s not all. The opposing team, in order to make it even more difficult to have the princess taken from them, have stuffed the princess full of cake, making her, well, fat. More than fat, actually. The once dainty, quite petite royalty is roughly the size of a barge when all is said and done.

I didn’t even have to see the game to know it was full of win, truth told. The adorable, instantly iconic art style just added to the game’s appeal.

Amazon Lists Grand Turismo 5 for December 29th 2009

Amazon.com has a curious listing for Gran Turismo’s potential release date: December 29th, 2009.

While I’m still taking this listing with a grain of salt, comments made by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi earlier last month lends a bit more credibility to the posting. He stated that they could most certainly release the game at any time.

I’m not the biggest racing game fan out there, but I’ve always been impressed with the quality of the Gran Turismo games, and part 5 is looking absolutely stunning.

When more concrete information is revealed about the release, I’ll certainly keep you informed.

inFAMOUS Movie In The Works

Word down the street is that Sony has tapped screenwriter Sheldon Turner to pen the feature film version of Playstation 3′s electrifying superhero sandbox adventure, inFAMOUS.

Turner penned the films The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and The Longest Yard remake.

No other information was given, besides Ari and Avi Arad producing, but inFAMOUS is excellent fodder for a big budget blockbuster summer movie, so here’s hoping that Sony aims big and gives the game it’s just due on the big screen.

Fat Princess Squashing PSN This Thursday

Sony has revealed today that the hotly anticipated PSN title, Fat Princess will finally see release this Thursday, July 30th, on the Playstation Network.

The game will retail for $14.99, and revolves around players attempting to rescue their Princess that has been kidnapped by a rival team. The rival team, however, has been stuffing the Princess full of cakes and sweets, in an attempt to make her heavier, and therefore, harder, to remove from the castle.

The game features 6 classes players can choose from, a single player campaign, and up to 32 player matches.

Little Big Planet Gets inFAMOUS This Thursday

Word from the grapevine is that Sucker Punches’ super hero opus inFAMOUS is making it’s way to Little Big Planet this Thursday.

No other information is available like price and if the costumes include stickers, but I’ll certainly keep you informed when more details are given.

Borderlands Gameplay Trailer

Borderlands, from Gearbox Entertainment already had me intrigued with it’s Mad Max style take on open world FPS games, but then it had to go ahead and sell me on the idea with it’s unique artistic aesthetic and RPG elements.

For those that don’t know, the best way to describe Borderlands is Fallout 3 meets Mad Max. That may not really be doing the title justice, but it’s the only way I can put it into words.

It doesn’t seem like players can create their own avatar, but they take control of one of 4 characters, and roam a somewhat post apocalyptic world, battling enemies and gaining experience points. On top of that, there is a near infinite amount of guns that can be created using parts found in the world. I literally saw, in one demo, a shotgun that was modified to freeze enemies, then explode them.

The game hits US shores on October 30th, 2009, but to tide you over, a gameplay trailer has been released, and is found at the link below.

Faceoff! Resistance 2 vs Killzone 2

I have to say that this weeks Faceoff was another challenge. I’m a huge fan of both Resistance 2 and Killzone 2, and they offer two very different perspectives on the FPS genre. Even so, it’s fun to compare the two premiere shooter franchises on the Playstation 3, so without further babble from me, let’s get this ball rolling!

Castle Crashers coming to Playstation 3

Developer of the awesome Xbox LIVE Arcade game Castle Crashers, Behemoth, have revealed today that they are bringing the 2d sidescrolling beat’em up to the Playstation 3.

No other details were given, but a gameplay trailer was released (visible at the link below) for eager gamers to check out. It’s a truly fun, entertaining game, and I encourage gamers that only have a Playstation 3 to give it a try when it finally hits the Playstation 3 “sometime in the future” (devs words, not mine).

Uncharted Release Date Officially Announced

Sony and Naughty Dog have finally lifted the curtain on the release date for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The game will hit on October 13th in North America. Box Art can be see above.

Sega has released some mighty fine looking screens of upcoming PSP game, Valkyria Chronicles 2.

I have to say the game is looking very impressive, and truly captures the tone and feel of Valkyria Chronicles. The PSP’s game lineup is simply incredible this year, and I’ll be picking this up as soon as it releases in NA.

Of course, I have to beat the first one first…
