UPDATE:Playstation 3 Firmware 2.60 Now LIVE

UPDATE: The firmware is now LIVE, so, er, ignore what was previously posted! Carry on!

Word from the Playstation Blog is that new PS3 firmware 2.60 is coming very soon, and adds some swanky new Divx updates and photo options.

Full details after the jump.

First up is the new Photo Gallery option. This will allows for better organizing and displaying of your photos. You can organize groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The Photo Gallery application will need to be installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3’s firmware. To install the Photo Gallery application, go to the Photo section on the XMB, select Photo Gallery and press the X button.

Next up is the update to Divx 3.11 support. Simply meaning that the PS3 can now play videos in that format.

And lastly, is the Guest Playstation Store access option, allowing non-Playstation Network members the ability to peruse the PS Store.

No release date has been given other than the oh so cryptic “coming soon.” My guess is by weeks end.

Check out the source below for a video of the new features in action.
