Super Mario World

For this week’s edition of Faceoff, I decided to rewind the clock and pit two classic titles against each other in a head to head battle. Both Super Mario Bros. 3, and it’s sequel, Super Mario World are two of my favorite games of all time. But out of the two, there is only one that I consistently play and still get that feeling of wonder and amazement I felt when I first popped the cartidge into my system. Retro Faceoff starts now!

Chrono Trigger DS gets a European Release Date

Posted in DS, News with tags , , , , on December 11, 2008 by Stefano Terry

Square-Enix finally lifted the veil on the European release date of Chrono Trigger: February 6.

Chrono Trigger DS is a faithful reproduction of the Super Nintendo classic, but features additional dungeons, the cutscenes from the Playstation remake, an alternate ending, not to mention the use of the DS’ two screens.

Chrono Trigger was the game that got me interested in RPGs way back in the day, and although I’d rather have a new entry to the Chrono series, I can never get enough of the original.

Mario Power Tennis, Pikmin the latest titles in The Play on The Wii Series

Posted in News, Wii with tags , , , , on December 11, 2008 by Stefano Terry

Ign reports on the latest Gamecube titles to get a Wii-make; Mario Tennis and Pikmin courtesy of the latest Famitsu.

The titles fall into The Play on the Wii series (titled, in Japanese, “Wii De Asobu Selection”), which offers Japanese gamers Wii re-releases of Gamecube Games.

Mario Power Tennis, Nintendo Wii 2009

One new feature mentioned in Famitsu about Pikmin concerns saving your game. When you save, the game stores day-by-day records of your play. You’re free to restart play from the day of your choice.

Nintendo has made Mario Power Tennis fully Wii compatible. Meaning you swing the Wii remote to swing your racket like you would in the real world.

I may not be a big fan of constantly re-releasing old games, but Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis were two of the best games on the Gamecube.

Pikmin hits Wii consoles on December 25, and Mario Power Tennis on January 15. Both titles are priced at 3,800 yen.
