In a right out of nowhere announcement, the PSN is getting a new side-scrolling beat em up in the vein of Double Dragon tomorrow, November 24th (that’d be tomorrow) entitled Revend of the Wounded Dragons from developer Wanako Studios.

The game is being published by Sony Online Entertainment, and follows the cliches of the genre, with a standard “rescue your girlfriend” plot, but features a deeper combo system, Trophies, Custom Soundtracks, and Leaderboards. It also supports local play only.

The game will retail for $9.99.

Dragon Age: Origins Review

Posted in Editorials, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 with tags , , on November 21, 2009 by namelessshe

I’ve been meaning to write a thorough review of Dragon Age: Origins for at least a week. The problem? I can’t stop playing it long enough to write much of anything. In fact, the only reason I’m typing this right now is because dear hubby slipped the controller out of my hand while I was sleeping and is rocking the God of War Collection.  So to take advantage of this forced vacation… Continue reading

Review: God of War Collection

Posted in Editorials, Playstation 3, Reviews with tags , , on November 20, 2009 by Stefano Terry

Genre: Action/Adventure
Platforms: Playstation 3
Developer: Bluepoint Games/Santa Monica Studios
Price: $39.99 (USD)

The original God of War games debuted on the Playstation 2 to critical and commercial acclaim, and are widely regarded as one of the best Action/Adventure titles in the industry. The tale of tormented Spartan soldier Kratos and his quest for revenge against the Gods are as classic and legendary as the Greek and Roman mythology the series is based around.

In a bit of genius on Sony’s part, after E3 2009, they decided to remaster the collection for the Playstation 3, in an attempt to not only make some sweet cash off of old games, but to introduce the series to new-comers, and to pump up old fans for the release of God of War 3 in March 2010. As a die hard fan of the series, I was absolutely pumped at the prospect of seeing the original two God of War titles packed onto one Blu Ray disc in 720p, a locked 60fps, 2X Anti-Aliasing to smooth out the rough edges, and of course, Trophies. Little Big Planet – PSP Review

Posted in Editorials, PSN, PSP, Reviews with tags , , , on November 18, 2009 by Stefano Terry

Genre: Play/Create/Share Platformer
Platforms: Playstation Portable (PSP)
Developer: SCE Studio Cambridge/Media Molecule
Price: $39.99 (USD)

Ever since Sony first unveiled Little Big Planet at the Games Development Conference in 2007, it charmed the pants off of anyone who laid eyes on it thanks to the iconic and instantly endearing Sackboy. When the game finally hit store shelves in late 2008, it lived up to all the hype and expectations, and went on to win numerous awards and plenty of adoration from the critics and gamers alike.

Not wanting to miss out on expanding such a good thing, SCE Cambridge, in conjunction with Little Big Planet’s developer, Media Molecule, have decided to introduce the series to the PSP handheld, and the results are amazing. The game takes everything that was wonderful and charming about the original, and fits it into a bite sized package just as quirky, humorous, and creative as it’s Playstation 3 big brother. Review: Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines – PSP

Posted in Editorials, PSP, Reviews with tags , , on November 16, 2009 by Stefano Terry

Genre: Sandbox/Action/Adventure
Platforms: Playstation Portable (PSP)
Developer: Ubisoft Montreal/Griptonite Games
Price: $39.99 (USD)

When I heard that Assassin’s Creed was making it’s way to the PSP, I was simultaneously excited and trepedatious. Being a fan of the original Assassin’s Creed, I couldn’t help but wonder how well the franchise would translate to the PSP, especially after the interesting experiment that was the Nintendo DS version. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I fired up the game, and discovered that, yup, it’s Assassin’s Creed, but in mini form. And that’s a GOOD thing. Continue reading

Final Fantasy XIII

Square-Enix have finally revealed that the long awaited next gen entry to the Final Fantasy series will be releasing on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on March 9th, 2010.

I’m definitely looking forward to it, although I have to say that March 2010 is beginning to look a little crowded with all the games being slated for that spot.

An Editorial  Rant by Figboy

As usual, I find myself on my soap box ranting about the gaming media. I can’t help it, with each and every bit of media being released by the gaming press this generation, the more fuel they add to the fire in regards to their complete lack of objectivity, consistency, and above all else, journalistic standards.

I’m not a journalists, nor do I consider myself to be one. I’m simply a guy that loves his video games, and loves talking video games with like minded gamers. Continue reading

Deadly Premonition Announced For Xbox 360

Deadly Premonition

Ignition Entertainment has announced that they will be bringing Access Game’s “Deadly Premonition” to Xbox 360 next year.

The survival horror game follows FBI Agent Francis York Morgan, who is investigating a murder in a small town. As you expect, all is not as it seems in the town, and a web of really creepy mystery unravels. Not much else is known about the gameplay other than players will be able to avoid enemies stealthily, or barge in guns blazing.

Check out the teaser trailer at the official site link below. I for one am always up for more survival games (not enough this generation, honestly), so I’ll definitely keep you posted on this intriguing title as more is known.

Jonathan Blow, creator of the time twisting platformer Braid, has confirmed that the title will finally make it’s way to the PSN on November 12th. That’d be next week Thursday.

I personally loved the game on the Xbox 360, so I don’t see why I wouldn’t love it on the PSN either. It’s clever, unique, and most importantly, very fun. I highly recommend it as a purchase. It will retail for $14.99 (USD)
